March 10-13, Coral Springs

view team records

Comets swimmers combined their efforts, determination, and team spirit to surpass 23 other Florida Gold Coast teams to finish in fourth overall with a combined 845 points at the 2005 Junior Olympic Championship.

This competition served to reinforce that Comet swimmers have the desire and ability to outwork and outperform the competition in future LSC championships.

Swimmers showed their confidence and ability with their stand-out swims. One such example was Daniel Lee's 200 IM where he was seeded eighth in finals and managed to outswim the competition to place second.

That same "come from behind" attitude was evident in the Boy's 11-12 400 freestyle relay. Swimming as anchor, Tyler Sell amazingly caught up to the lead swimmer from Plantation after making up a 12 and half yard defecit and touched him out to win the event!

The 11-12 Girls 400 freestyle relay also brought the Comets' section to their feet when they led the entire race by a wide margin and secured the win by only .13 seconds! The girls secured the victory by denying Pinecrest's valient effort to take the lead.

In total sixteen Comet relays placed in the top-three positions in their event. Of those, five became FGC champions by winning their race.

Chris Grace and Krista Mantay both earned accolades for their impressive 500 freestyles. Chris dropped 6.70 sec. and made fourth place with a time of 4:47.75. Krista dropped 3 seconds to finish with a 5:05. In her 1000 freestyle she dropped 16.13 sec. and placed third.

In lane ten Alex Parada safely took off for the last leg of the Men's 200 freesytle relay as Anthony Fermin slamed into the wall below him. Meanwhile, officials stood ready to disqualify teams that false start.

Congratulations JO Champions:

Tyler Sell: 500 free, 200 free, 100 back, 50 back, 100 free.

Comet swimmers cheering before the start of finals.

Parents, swimmers, and friends helped
cheer on teammates throughout the
meet. The familiar "Go! Go! Go!" yells
served to motivate swimmers to put out
every last ounce of effort.

Mark Huang holds up the #1 after earning his long-awaited first Sectional cut in the 100 freestyle (50.56).

Despite crowded conditions, Comet
swimmers made sure to get a good
warm-up before their events.

Melissa Fernandez, Tiffany Oliver, Bianca
Muniz, and Brandon Tetreault.

Best time or big dissapointment...?
Best time of course! Joshua Lee beat his
rival from Cooper City and dropped 29.18
seconds in his 1650 freestyle (18:21.59)
after his second time ever swimming the
event and qualifying just one week prior
at Division II!
